Disney Area Vacation Advice

Disney Area Vacation Rentals – Essential Travel Tips

Planning a trip to the Disney area? Make the most of your vacation with these valuable tips! From avoiding scams to saving money on transportation and dining, we've got you covered. Check back often as we continue to update this list with new advice!

Gas Station & Car Rental Tips

Watch Out for Overpriced Gas – Some gas stations in Kissimmee and Orlando overcharge unsuspecting travelers. Always check the price before pumping—if there’s no clear sign, walk away. Some stations charge double the normal rate!
Know Your Fuel Type – Rental cars run on gasoline, not diesel. Be sure to use the correct pump—diesel pumps are often green but may not be compatible with your vehicle.
Skip the Prepaid Fuel Option – You’ll rarely use all the fuel you prepaid for. Instead, fill up the tank before returning your rental—we recommend the Tradeport Drive exit off I-4 near the airport. Keep your receipt in case of disputes.
Rental Car Toll Options – Some toll roads are fully automated. While loose change may be enough in Orlando, other areas require a transponder. Consider the PlatePass rental option to avoid unexpected toll fees.

Food & Dining Safety

Be Cautious When Ordering Takeout – Only order from verified restaurants (such as national chains) or through trusted food delivery apps. Avoid using pamphlets slipped under your door, as they may be scams targeting tourists.
Free BBQ Propane Refills – Guests staying in our Emerald Island Rentals properties receive complimentary propane gas refills for BBQ grills! If staying elsewhere, Walmart and Lowe’s offer the best refill prices.

Transportation & Theme Park Hacks

Don’t Rely on Public Transport – Bus service in Disney World-area communities is infrequent and stops can be far from vacation homes. Renting a car is the best way to maximize your time.
Free Disney Transportation – Anyone can use Disney’s monorail and bus services to travel between theme parks—no park ticket required!
Water Park Tip – Bring water shoes! Florida sun heats up the pavement, making it painful to walk barefoot.
Holiday Dining – If visiting during Christmas, book restaurant reservations well in advance, as many places close early or won’t be open at all.

Avoiding Scams & Saving Time

Off-Site Rental Car Agencies – While they may seem cheaper, off-site rental locations often mean longer wait times, shuttle rides, and delays—sometimes up to 2 hours! Consider if the savings are worth the inconvenience. Know your options as it pertains to renting a car.
Don't be a victim of a scam! Educate yourself by reviewing these tips on how to avoid getting scammed.
Scooter Rentals at Theme Parks – Need a mobility scooter? Arrive early—quantities are limited and they sell out fast!
Plan for Theme Park Crowds – Disney parks are busiest on weekends, with Magic Kingdom seeing the largest crowds. Visit Monday–Thursday for a more relaxed experience. Also, check special event schedules—some parks close early for ticketed events like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
